Our picks of Taipei's best activities:
Ximending: best for late-night shopping & street food
1. Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei Ximen opened in 2024
Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei Ximen, opened in 2024, is located right next to Exit 2 of Ximen MRT station and is just an easy 4-minute stroll to the bustling Ximending Pedestrian Street. The lobby comes with handy features like self-service laundry, microwaves and free luggage lockers.

Rooms start from a spacious 30m² with enough floor space to easily open two large suitcases. Most rooms fit up to three guests with an extra bed, and every room includes an air purifier.

For larger groups, family rooms fit up to four guests and come equipped with an in-room microwave, washer-dryer, and bathtub.

Connecting options are also available, linking two twin rooms via a private corridor behind a single shared main door. With extra beds, they can sleep up to six guests.
2. Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Taipei Ximen built in 2023
Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Taipei Ximen, completed in 2023, is another Japanese-operated option right in the heart of the Ximending shopping area. It sits just a 4-minute walk from Ximen MRT station and only one block from the main pedestrian street, with plenty of local food spots right outside.

The hotel mainly offers twin and double rooms (21-33m²). They also have a triple room (39m²) with three single beds, which works well if you are traveling with a small group.
3. Just Sleep Ximending free breakfast included!
Just Sleep Taipei Ximending is located right across the street from the main pedestrian area, just a 5-minute walk from Ximen Station. While it opened back in 2019, it was still in great shape when I last visited in 2025. There's a convenience store right downstairs, plus an on-site gym and laundry facilities.

Rooms start at over 20m², giving you a decent amount of space. The 3 to 4-person rooms feature a separate toilet and bathroom, which makes sharing much more convenient.

The complimentary breakfast buffet offers a good variety, with plenty of hot dishes and a full salad bar. It’s a nice added plus to fuel up before heading out for the day.
4. Orange Hotel Hanzhong built in 2023
Orange Hotel Hanzhong, completed in late 2023, is located in a prime location right by Ximending. It's just a 3-minute walk from Ximen MRT station and a 1-minute walk from the Historic Red House, placing you right next to a wide range of shopping and dining options.

The hotel offers single (10m²), double and twin options (13m²). While room sizes run on the smaller side, 20 of the double rooms come with balconies.

The common area isn't large, but it's well stocked with free coffee, fruit, and snacks all day, plus a laundry room equipped with four washer-dryers.

Taipei Main Station: best for day-trippers & intercity travel
5. Brown House Hotel - Taipei Main Station opened in 2024
Brown House Hotel - Taipei Main Station, opened in 2024, offers brand-new facilities at very reasonable rates. It sits right near the MRT exit of Taipei Main Station and the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store, making it a super convenient location. Since rooms are on the upper floors, those with windows come with great city views.

Room sizes vary quite a bit across types. Standard double rooms are small and windowless, which can feel cramped, so it is better to book a triple or quad room instead.

The quad room with two double beds starts from around NT$2,900 per night. For a newly opened hotel in such a central spot, the value is hard to beat.
6. Roaders Plus Hotel Taipei Station built in 2021
Roaders Plus Hotel Taipei Station, opened in 2021, sits right in front of Exit Z8 of Taipei Main Station Underground Mall, just a 4-minute walk from the Taoyuan Airport MRT station, and it is also at a walkable distance from Ximending area. The hotel lobby have free snacks available all day, and also features a play area for kids.

Rooms come equipped with smart TVs, and every layout except the standard room includes windows. Large group rooms over 30m² are also available if you are traveling with family or friends.

All rooms are located on the 24th floor and above, offering great views toward the Tamsui River or Taipei 101 from select rooms.
7. Tango INN Taipei Kaifong opened in 2024
Tango INN Taipei Kaifong, opened in 2024, is a budget-friendly hotel midway between Ximending and Taipei Main Station. While it isn't the most central choice, I have stayed here before for its great value. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to either station, which is still manageable. Since it sits close to exit Z10 of Taipei Main Station Underground Mall, it's easy to duck underground to avoid bad weather.

Rooms come with bedside wireless charging, USB ports, and free drinks in the fridge. You'll also find water dispensers on every floor and free washer-dryers inside the hotel.

They also offer 4-bed room layouts, though keep in mind that some room types are windowless when booking.
8. Hotel Resonance Taipei opened in 2020
Hotel Resonance Taipei, opened in 2020, is one of the most stylish modern hotels in the city. Situated right next to Shandao Temple MRT Station, it is just one stop or a 10-minute walk to Taipei Main Station. The nearby area is packed with local eateries, with a supermarket and Huashan Market right next door.

Rooms start at a spacious 30m² and come with a separate shower and bathtub, an electronic bidet toilet and a 55-inch Smart TV. Free washer-dryers are also available on-site.

Keep in mind that while some room packages include breakfast, it is served at the onsite Starbucks rather than as a traditional hotel buffet.
9. Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel
Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel, renovated in 2018, also sits right next to Shandao Temple MRT Station and is about a 10-minute walk to Taipei Main Station. It offers an even broader range of facilities than Hotel Resonance, including an outdoor swimming pool, gym, sauna, and kids' play area, making it a great pick for families.

Rooms start at a spacious 32m² with a modern design. Practical amenities in every room include welcome snacks, a bathtub and an electronic bidet toilet.

10. Caesar Metro Taipei 1 stop to Ximen & main station
Opened in 2018, Caesar Metro Taipei is the newest hotel, but it’s very well-maintained and remains my personal favourite. Because it sits directly above Wanhua Train Station and is a 4-minute walk to Longshan Temple MRT, you can get directly to the heart of both Ximending and Taipei Main Station in just one stop. It is also close to Bopiliao Historic Street and Nanjichang Night Market.

If you need a twin room, this is a great-value option offering far more space (26m²) at lower rates than neighbouring hotels.

You'll also find triple and family quad options. All rooms feature a split bathroom design with a separate toilet, shower and sink, making it easy for multiple people to get ready at once.
11. Hotel Gracery Taipei built in 2021
Hotel Gracery Taipei, opened in 2021, brings Tokyo’s famous "Godzilla Hotel" brand to Taiwan. It sits just a 2-minute walk from Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station, offering direct train rides to Taipei Main Station and Ximending, with Huashan 1914 Creative Park and DONKI both within a 5-minute walk.

All rooms are 25m² in size. Both bedrooms and bathrooms feature classic Japanese designs, making it a great pick for fans of Japanese-style hotel layouts.

The hotel also offers unique themed rooms created in collaboration with Japanese brands like Times Parking, HANDS, and Katsuya.
12. MGH Mitsui Garden Hotel Taipei Zhongxiao built in 2021
MGH Mitsui Garden Hotel Taipei Zhongxiao, opened in 2020, also sits right next to Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station. While it is slightly further from Huashan 1914 Creative Park, being right by the MRT exit is a huge plus, and it even features a Japanese style public bath.

The hotel offers double rooms from 21-35m² and triple rooms at 30m². All rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows, making the spaces feel bright, open, and comfortable.

The highlight is the Japanese-style public bath on the top floor, where you can soak while looking out over the city skyline.
